Dance is latent in every action and movement. And moving is the act of being alive.
Each action, whether physical or non-physical, has the potential to become something. Some transform into audio waves and leave visual evidence, while others translate into shapes and forms. Some merge with and become a physical body; some utilize other mediums, and some stay in the invisible realm - not to be seen or heard, but to be felt.
Being alive is a chain of actions and non-actions. You're moving now, even though you might not feel it. Maybe you do if you listen carefully. If you turn your attention to your body and focus, then you'll discover micro-movements and actions within your body, your bubble. On a bigger scale, you might feel the vibrations of an earthquake but don't feel how the earth is spinning around its axis, and if you did, you might be up for quite some dizziness. The dancer is right at the center of this constant (be)coming and leaving, turning their attentiveness into focus and focus into presence, presence into awareness, absorbing and registering the smallest and largest all at once, and one thing at a time. The dance practice is a playful exploration and investigation of potential. Dance is a transformation practice, and the dancer is the alchemist.
Regardless of the intention or purpose within a dance, move, or action, an act is either constructive or de-constructive. You either build or destroy. You either stop or start. You either live or die. To the dancer, actions and movements are the practice of reaching for the fullest poetic potential, transforming each act into wisdom, beauty, and joy, which then translates into clarity, compassion, and kindness. The dancer works in the department of growth and cultivation, and the byproduct of nurtured movements is a collection of good actions.
Dance has been part of human history since its earliest beginnings, bringing transcendence to spiritual rituals and creating bonds between people and communities. Dance styles have changed throughout history, but dance remains one of the most expressive physical art forms.
Research proves the excellent health and behavioral promoting effects of dance practice. Dance has a powerful impact on the human body, mind, and spirit, with the ability to create empathetic touch points so people can relate better to one another and understand themselves. Dance can activate a thriving culture by making connections among people who don't normally interact and to communities that largely remain invisible.
